So...apparently it's time to start thinking about challenges for next year. I am so not ready for that. Not that I don't still love challenges and plan to sign up for way more of them than I really should (per usual), but because this year I am so very behind in my reading and I'm feeling a bit buried in books and current challenges at the moment. But--rest assured the 2026 challenge tracker is coming as well as the sign up for my fellow Reading Challenge Addicts!

My Life in Books Challenge

 Someone in the Kat's Booknerds group on Facebook said they saw this posted by The Well-Read Wyvern on Instagram. But I cannot find an initial post [if you are better at searching Instagram than I am and can find it, let me know!]. The idea is to read one book from every year of your life. I'm thinking about it...and if you like the idea I say go for it!

I Think I've Got a Problem...

Help! I'm getting ready to sign up for my 34th Reading Challenge for 2024 and the year hasn't even begun yet. Every year I tell myself, "Self, now you really need to calm down when it comes to challenges. Do you really need to do all of these?" And my self nods compliantly and then turns around and signs up for all the things again. I really thought I was going to trim the list down this year....

Are you ready? The 2024 reading challenges are popping up (especially on StoryGraph) and it's time to start thinking about which ones you want to do. Or--since we're all challenge addicts here--maybe it's more accurate to say which ones you think you might not do....

The Reading Challenges Are Coming For You...and Me!

 

Pssst. The challenges are coming. Can't you hear them calling your name?

Well. They're certainly calling mine. And as soon as I get the last of my sponsored challenges in order for 2023, I'm going to start signing up like mad. Have you started yet? Don't forget to sign up as a 2023 Reading Challenge Addict while you're at it!

So....it's hard to believe, but, apparently, it's that time of year when challenge hosts start posting their new challenges for the the coming year. And because it's that time of year, I (like the car above) get sidetracked from my 2022 challenge destinations and tempted to take the 2023 off-ramp. Just off to the right there is the road that leads to the town of  2023 Challenge Planning. Both planning my reading for the challenges I sign up for as well as planning for the challenges that I will host myself. It becomes a little more difficult to keep my eye on the 2022 prize.

I've Signed Up for HOW many challenges?!

Is it just me or are there more challenges out there this year? Or maybe there are just more calling my name. I ask because....well, 2021 isn't even over yet and I have managed to sign up for 27 (yes, you read that correctly Twenty. Seven.) challenges. Sure...I might wind up with that many by the end of the reading year, because new ones pop up. Or I pick up short-term ones (for summer or the Christmas Spirit Challenge or whatever). But I don't normally start with that many. Folks...I think I have a challenge problem....

So...how many have you signed up for? C'mon, fess up and make a girl feel better about how many she's got.

 

Christmas Is Coming! Time for a Christmas Challenge & Readathon

 

 

 

Michelle at Seasons of Reading is once again sponsoring her Christmas Spirit Reading Challenge. In short, the challenge runs from November 22, 2021 through January 6, 2022. The books read must be Christmassy in nature--novels, short story collections, books of poems, etc.

 

Three ways to participate:

1. Challenge: Pick a level
      ~Candy Cane: read 1 book
      ~Mistletoe: read 2-4 books
      ~Christmas Tree: read 5-6 books (this is the fanatic level...LOL!)

2. Readathon: read as much (or as little as you want)

3. Participate in both!

Additional levels for watching Christmas movies and reading children's books with your kids--but you must complete one of the main reading levels to fulfill the challenge.

Get Ready to Be Challenged...in 2022

  And, yes, the holidays are coming. But...that's not what I mean. For reading challenge addicts like us, this time of year means that challenge hosts are putting together new versions of current challenges for 2022. Or, perhaps, they're dreaming up new challenges to make our addict hearts beat faster. 

Jamie @ Whatever I Think Of is the absolute best at tracking down challenges and has already spotted the first one. So, I will be setting up the links for next year's list of Reading Challenge Addict challengers as well as the ongoing list of reading challenges that get posted for 2022.

Summer Time and the Reading Is Easy

 ...or at least it's supposed to be. Let's hope that we all have some down time this summer and can work in extra reading time. I'm going to need to squeeze in as much as possible because in August we're going back to live and in person at the university and I have a feeling that my reading time is going to suddenly drop to zero while I get used that whole transporting myself to office (instead of of my living room) thing again.

COVID has our holiday landscapes looking a lot different this year. With states going back to more strict mandates (much needed, in my opinion), it's looking like the holidays are going to be offering A LOT of downtime. In light of the current situation, I've decided to make the Christmas Spirit Readathon run the same length as the yearly reading challenge, and they are now co-events. Yay!

Dates: November 23, 2020 through January 6, 2021

Three ways to participate:

1. Challenge - Pick a level
2. Readathon - read as much (or as little) as you want
3. Participate in both!

Regarding the reading of Christmas books, for the readathon, you do not have to read only Christmas books. I am always reading regular genres along with Christmas books during the season. Please do try to read at least one though. 🎄

For the reading challenge, these must be Christmas novels, books about Christmas lore, a book of Christmas short stories or poems, books about Christmas crafts, children's books (we even have a level for them!), etc.

Reading Challenge Levels:

--Candy Cane: read 1 book
--Mistletoe: read 2-4 books
--Christmas Tree: read 5 or 6 books, or more (this is the fanatic level!)

Additional levels:

--Fa La La La Films: watch a bunch or a few Christmas movies...it's up to you!
--Visions of Sugar Plums: read books with your children this season and share what you read

I've Been a Bad Hostess

 

I've been a bad, bad hostess. I have to apologize to all the addicts signed up for challenges...I completely ditched my duties in updating the challenges completed page this year. But I think we all can agree that this has been a very atypical year all around. Working from home. Having to look at the same two people 24/7 for months on end. Yikes. 

The good news is...I've now updated the page with all reported challenge completions. I hope that the rest of you have been so caught up in reading while avoiding COVID that you've forgotten to report in on your challenge successes. But I promise that if you add completed challenge from here on out then I will update the page in a more timely fashion.

Zipping off now to do more reading!

Summer Reading Challenge
